CMap & Summeries: Simple Past versus Past Continuous
Simple Past - Pasado Simple
Is used to describe actions that have happened at an earlier time and have already completed.
Both the negative interrogative as DID is used as an auxiliary.
Can be used in negations DID or DID NOT.
The simple past tense of regular verbs is the infinitive termination with ED, whereas irregulars are so called not to follow a certain pattern and in this case must be studied individually.
Examples:
She cleaned her house. (ella limpió su casa).
I broke the window. (yo rompí la ventana).
Past Continuos – Pasado Continuado
Describes actions that were being made at a time from the past to which reference is made and then continued.
The Past Continuous is constructed with the auxiliary verb "to be" in its past and the main verb in the infinitive with ING termination.
The negative form is constructed by placing after the verb NOT TO BE. You can also use the negative form of the verb to be: WASN `T or WEREN`T.
Examples:
Yesterday he was studying English. Ayer él estaba estudiando inglés.
(Comenzó a estudiar antes de ese momento y continuó estudiando posteriormente)
John was playing tennis at 10 a.m. John estuvo jugando tenis a las 10 a.m.
(Comenzó a jugar tenis antes de las 10 a.m. y continuó haciéndolo después)
Past Simple & Past Continuos
They are used to describe two actions that happened in the past and one of them has already been completed. We use the Simple Past to mention it already ended and the Past Continuous to tell what is still running.
Examples:
1. I was playing football with my younger brother the whole of yesterday.
2. When I was cooking a dinner, my sister was listening to music in her room.
3. My friend was in Great Britain the whole of year.
4. My friend and I were studying it all month.
5. She was listening to music, whe the phone rang.
6. Yesterday at this time I was cleaning my room, my parents were reading a newspaper and my brother was watching TV.
7. When my mum was cleaning our kitchen, my sister was writing a letter.
8. I was taking a shower, when my boyfriend came.
9. She met him when they were studying in Warsaw.
10. They weren't reading books when I came.
11. My parents weren't cooking a dinner, when my friend and I came from the school.
12. She didn't answer the phone, because she was listening to music and she wasn't nothing other.
13. At this time last year we were working in London.
14. When I went out, it was raining.
15. I saw an accident when my father and I were driving to his work.
16. We weren't living here at this time.
17. Was you writing the letter, when our mum came?
18. When I woke up, no one was sleeping.
19. I wasn't doing something important when you came.
20. When I came to Tom, his father and he were repairing their car.

Diagrams & Practice for the test : Simple Past and Past Continous
SIMPLE PAST - DIAGRAMS
We use the Simple Past when we talk about something which started and finished in the past.
Se usa para expresar que algo comenzó en el pasado y ya finalizó.
We use the Simple Past to describe a series of actions in the past.
Simple Past - Signal words (palabras que indican pasado)
These words tell you what tense you have to use. For the Simple Past these are expressions of time in the past.
yesterday last week
a month ago in 2002
PAST CONTINUOUS - DIAGRAMS
We use the Past Continuous when we talk about something which was happening around a period of time in the past.
We use the Past Continuous (blue) together with the Simple Past (pink). The Past Continuous is used for the action in the past which was in progress when a new action (Simple Past) happened.
Two actions which were in progress in the past do not influence each other.
Past Continuous - Signal words
Signal words tell you what tense you have to use. In the Past Progressive we often use a period of time. A typical signal word is while. The Past Progressive is frequently used in sentences together with the Simple Past.
While (In this part of the sentence we usually use Past Progressive.)
While we were watching TV, Andy was surfing the internet.

Incy Wincy Spider
went up the waterspout
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider
went up the spout again

Cmaps about Simple Past
Using Cmap Tools Programme - Usando el programa Cmap Tool
In this post I´ll published what the students create in class.
First, we altogether draw a cmap on the whiteboard about the simple past of the verb "to be". Then they create one working in pairs and using the Cmap Tool. As a homework they had to create another one as regards regular & Irregular Verbs.
All this was done with the purpose of reviewing the simple past because next week they´ll have a test next wednesday (june 5th) about it.
So the result is this :
VERB "TO BE"
Andrés & Delfina
Ulises & Pancho
REGULAR & IRREGULAR VERBS
Constanza & Irina
Valentina & Laura
A COMPLETE CMAP: Verb "to be" - R & I Verbs

Torn (a song to learn)
OK boys & girls, I really think Agapornis (AGP) destroyed this beautiful song from the Australian Natalie Imbruglia. Anyway, as I know most of you like "cumbia" rythm, I decided to publish both the original version and this new versions of an incredible song.
Now you are supposed to translate its lyrics (it´s at the end of this post).
GL!
Realmente creo que Agapornis (AGP) destrozó esta bella canción de la Australiana Natalie Imbruglia. De todas formas, como a muchos de ustedes les gusta el ritmo de la cumbia, decidí publicar ambos videos, el original y la version de AGP.
Ahora ustedes tendrán que conseguir una buena traducción de la letra de este tema musical (está en la parte final de esta entrada).
Buena Suerte!!!
TORN –
Natalie Imbruglia
I thought I saw a man
brought to life
He was warm
He came around and he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry
Well you couldn't be that man I adored
You don't seem to know
Or seem to care what your heart is for
Well I don't know him anymore
There's nothing where he used to lie
My conversation has run dry
That's what's going on
Nothing's fine I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake
And I can see
The perfect sky is torn
You're a little late
I'm already torn
So I guess the fortune teller's right
I should have seen just what was there
And not some holy light
But you crawled beneath my veins
And now I don't care
I have no luck
I don't miss it all that much
There's just so many things
That I can't touch I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
He was warm
He came around and he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry
Well you couldn't be that man I adored
You don't seem to know
Or seem to care what your heart is for
Well I don't know him anymore
There's nothing where he used to lie
My conversation has run dry
